What is Wound Care and Limb Salvage?

Wound care and limb salvage are when we try to save the foot or leg from amputation using aggressive treatments and procedures.

Limb Salvage

You have to have an adequate amount of blood supply in your foot or leg to keep them healthy and save them. Our treatments and procedures work to restore proper blood flow into your foot or leg. In some cases, this may include partial foot amputation to keep your blood flow as healthy as possible. This type of procedure is only performed in cases of absolute necessity. In cases involving bone infection, we can use antibiotics, surgery, antibiotic beads, and in worst-case scenarios partial toe or partial foot amputation. Our goal is to keep your feet as healthy as possible and to that end, we will work hard to keep your blood flow at adequate levels.

Wound Care

For Diabetics, healing and preventing wounds can be a challenge. Some diabetics lose sensation in their feet which can make it difficult for them to know they have a wound. Over time, this wound can become larger and get infected or turn into a larger problem like an ulcer. We work to care for your foot wounds and to help them heal before they turn into a larger problem.

We can treat a variety of foot wounds including the following:

  • Traumatic ulcers and injuries
  • Arterial ulcers
  • Venous ulcers
  • Lymphatic ulcers
  • Skin cancers
  • and more

If you have a wound or you want a limb salvage consultation, we are here for you and will be with you the entire time to help you as much as possible.
